10 Magical Cottagecore Picnic Ideas
Hello darling!
I hear you want to go on a picnic, but you’re tired of the the usual cheese, wine and strawberries while reading a book.
So here are 10 unique cottagecore picnic ideas that will have your imagination bursting!
1. Plan a Party
Planning celebrations and big parties is one of my fav things to do! So ask whose birthday or what occasion is coming up next and go wild! Maybe you want to create a renaissance escape room for your friend’s birthday, plan a cottagecore picnic, start a D&D campaign but throw a big launch party for your first session, or plan on hosting thanksgiving or Christmas this year but with a renaissance twist!
2. Host a Food Competition
A friendly little food battle can spice up your average picnic! Pick a prize for the winner, a food, a way to make it competitive… then battle it out in a cozy food frenzy! Who can make the best crazy s’mores? Or who can make the prettiest sandwich? Maybe a fairy house battle built entirely from food?! You could even let your Instagram or TikTok followers choose the winners!
3. Turn by Turn Art
You’ve probably seen this trend on Instagram or TikTok—where you take turns painting a scene or even each other! Bring some friends along on your next picnic and have everyone start drawing a fun prompt. It could be mushrooms, little woodland creatures, herbology, or even designing a cottagecore outfit. Once 5 or 10 minutes passes, swap papers so everyone starts drawing on a new piece. Keep rotating until you’ve created a whimsical, collaborative art collection.
4. Learn Something New
A distraction free picnic is a great way to learn something new. And gosh… the possibilities are endless! Learning to crotchet, how to forage for mushrooms, how to watercolor, cross-stitch… just pick something that you can take outdoors and go for it!
5. Bring Your Pet
Make your pet some snacks and take them out for a picnic date! You could draw a portrait of them, read a book out loud to them, teach them new tricks… you get the idea! Even if you have a cat, snake, or bird… you can make this work and probably have a lot of fun!
6. Write a Handwritten Letter
Have you ever received a handwritten letter? Not a Christmas card that says “Love Gramma” written in pen. I’m talking about a real paper sized letter that has more than “Wishing You The Best”. Pick someone and just write to them. Share your heart, tell them stories of what’s happened to you recently, or encourage them. Getting a piece of mail like this can make someone’s day plus it’s fun to do!
7. Help Someone
This idea is close to my heart. Sometimes the best cure for helping yourself get out of a funky mindset. Twisting your pain and hurt into healing and encouragement for others. So pick someone who needs a little extra love. What could they use? What is something you could do for them? Maybe they could use a handwritten letter of encouragement. Maybe a simple handcrafted gift would make their day. You could plan a party for them, make them a little coupon to watch their kids or pets so they can get away and breathe, make take them out for massages? You get the idea. You know them the best and can come up with something that will help them in their particular struggles.
8. Tea Swap With Friends
Throw a picnic party tea swap! Invite your friends but tell them they need to bring their favorite teas to exchange! I used to think I didn’t like tea… but I have found there are some incredible and unique teas out there! Some of my favorite is “Plukt” tea from a small woman owned shop in Europe.
9. Mental Health Breathwork
If you’re looking to go on a picnic and relax… chances are you could benefit from a quiet, self care breathing session. Stress permeates our fast paced lives, and the older we get, the more loss/betrayal/pain we endure. Do some research on the type of breathing exercises that could help you. There are ways to retrain your brain and how it thinks electrically by mediation and quiet breathing. There are ways to breath that can help lower blood pressure and help with stress. So find something that can help you specifically and make it into a mental health picnic.
10. Flower Crown Competition
This is one of my favorite ideas! Throw down a blanket, stuff some delicious food in your mouth and start a little flower crown competition with your girlfriends! You could bring your own materials or forage for them!
